What is Hifz?

Hifz (حفظ) means the memorisation of the entire Holy Quran. A person who has memorised the complete Quran is called a Hafiz (male) or Hafiza (female). The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "The one who was devoted to the Quran will be told to recite and ascend... He will rise in status for every verse he recites." (Abu Dawud)

Becoming a Hafiz is one of the most honoured achievements in Islam. The Quran consists of 6,236 verses across 114 Surahs memorising it is a journey that requires discipline, dedication, and the right teaching guidance. At Tajweed Online, we make this journey structured, achievable, and deeply rewarding for children.

Our Hifz Programme Structure

Our Hifz programme is designed around three key stages:

  • Foundation (Juz Amma) Memorising the 30th Para, which contains the shorter Surahs most commonly recited in daily prayers. This builds confidence and establishes the habit of memorisation.
  • Progression (Juz by Juz) Systematic memorisation of the remaining 29 Paras in the traditional order, with daily new lesson (Sabaq), recent revision (Sabqi) and older revision (Manzil).
  • Completion and Revision Once all 30 Paras are memorised, a dedicated revision phase ensures the entire Quran is firmly established in long-term memory.

The Three-Part Daily Method

Our Hafiz teacher follows the time-tested Hifz method used in traditional madrasas, adapted for online learning:

  • Sabaq (New Lesson) Fresh memorisation of new verses, typically 3–10 lines per day depending on the child's ability
  • Sabqi (Recent Revision) Revision of the last 7 days' memorisation to strengthen short-term retention
  • Manzil (Old Revision) Regular revision of previously memorised sections to move content to long-term memory

What Makes Our Hifz Programme Effective

Many children start Hifz but struggle to complete it due to lack of structure, inconsistent teaching, or inadequate revision. Our programme solves this by providing:

  • Daily sessions to maintain momentum and consistency
  • A certified Hafiz with deep experience teaching children
  • A personalised revision schedule tailored to your child's memory capacity
  • Parent progress updates so families can support revision at home
  • Motivational milestones celebrating each Juz completed

How Long Does Hifz Take?

The timeline varies significantly based on the child's age, daily practice time, and natural memorisation ability. On average, a dedicated child attending daily sessions and revising at home can complete Hifz in 3 to 5 years. Some exceptional students complete it in 2 years. There is no fixed deadline we work at each child's optimal pace to ensure the memorisation is strong, not rushed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age should my child start Hifz?

The ideal age is between 5 and 10 years. Children in this range have exceptional memory capacity and absorb new material quickly. However, determined older children and teenagers can also succeed with the right approach.

Does my child need to know Tajweed before starting Hifz?

Basic reading ability is required. Tajweed knowledge is beneficial but not essential to begin our teacher incorporates basic pronunciation correction throughout the Hifz process.

How much time should my child practise at home?

We recommend 20–30 minutes of home revision daily. Hifz is a commitment consistent daily practice outside of class is what truly makes memorisation stick.

What if my child forgets previously memorised sections?

This is completely normal and expected. Our structured Sabqi and Manzil revision system is specifically designed to address this. No student ever fully forgets they just need regular revision.

Will my child receive recognition upon completion?

Yes. Upon completing the memorisation of the full Quran, we celebrate the achievement with a formal certificate and acknowledgement. This is a momentous milestone and we treat it as such.

Can my child learn Hifz alongside regular school?

Yes many of our students are in full-time school. We work around school hours, scheduling sessions in the evening or early morning as needed.
