What is Tajweed?

Tajweed (تجوید) is the set of rules governing the proper pronunciation and recitation of the Holy Quran. The word comes from the Arabic root meaning "to make better" or "to do well." When a Muslim recites the Quran with Tajweed, they are honouring it in the way it was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ through the Angel Jibreel (AS).

Learning Tajweed is not merely recommended it is considered an Islamic obligation (fardh kifayah) for every Muslim. The Quran itself instructs us: "And recite the Quran with measured recitation" (Al-Muzzammil 73:4). Tajweed ensures that every letter is given its proper right its correct point of articulation, characteristics, and rules.

What Your Child Will Learn

Our Tajweed curriculum is structured into beginner, intermediate and advanced stages:

  • Makharij al-Huruf The precise points of articulation for each Arabic letter

Why Tajweed Matters for Children

The earlier a child learns Tajweed, the more naturally correct pronunciation becomes. Children who learn Tajweed from a young age develop a beautiful, confident recitation style that stays with them for life. More importantly, learning Tajweed deepens a child's connection to the Quran they begin to appreciate its linguistic and spiritual beauty in a way that transforms their relationship with Allah's words.

Our Tajweed Teaching Method

We use a combination of classical Tajweed texts and modern visual aids to make rules memorable and practical. Every session includes both explanation and live recitation practice the teacher listens carefully, corrects gently, and provides immediate feedback. Students progress at their own pace, and no rule is considered "learned" until it is applied consistently in real recitation.

Progress and Assessment

Every student receives a Tajweed progress tracker showing which rules have been covered and which need further practice. Parents on the Standard and Intensive plans receive weekly recitation feedback. Students who complete the full Tajweed curriculum receive a completion certificate.
