Why Islamic Studies Matters

Islamic Studies is the foundation upon which all other Islamic learning rests. Before a child can truly appreciate the Quran, understand the Hadith, or perform worship meaningfully, they need to understand why what they believe, who they worship, what Islam asks of them, and where their faith comes from.

For Muslim children growing up in Western societies, Islamic Studies serves an even deeper purpose: it forms identity. A child who knows their deen with confidence who understands the pillars of Islam and Iman, who knows the story of the Prophet ﷺ, who understands why Muslims pray, fast, give Zakat and perform Hajj is a child who is grounded, confident, and proud of their faith.

What Your Child Will Learn

Our Islamic Studies curriculum is organised into four interconnected areas:

  • Aqeedah (Islamic Belief) The six pillars of Iman: belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and divine decree
  • Fiqh (Islamic Practice) The five pillars of Islam: Shahadah, Salah, Sawm, Zakat and Hajj. What they mean, how they are performed, and why they matter
  • Seerah (Biography of the Prophet ﷺ) The life story of Muhammad ﷺ from birth to prophethood, the Hijra, key battles, and his final years brought to life with age-appropriate storytelling
  • Islamic History The Khulafa Rashideen (four rightly-guided Caliphs), the spread of Islam, key Muslim scholars, and the golden age of Islamic civilisation
  • Islamic Character and Manners (Akhlaq) Honesty, kindness, respect for parents and elders, care for the environment, and how to be a good Muslim in everyday life
  • Stories of the Prophets From Adam (AS) to Isa (AS) teaching faith through narrative

Building Muslim Identity Through Education

Our teacher does not just deliver information she facilitates understanding. Every topic is connected to the child's daily life and real-world situations. Why do we fast? What does it feel like for those who have nothing and how does Zakat connect us to them? How did the Prophet ﷺ respond when people were unkind to him and how should we?

These conversations build not just knowledge but wisdom, empathy, and a deeply personal relationship with Islam that no amount of rote memorisation can achieve.

Islamic Studies in Urdu and English

Many Muslim families in the UK, USA, Canada and Australia face a dual challenge: their children are fluent in English but less confident in Urdu or Arabic. Our teacher seamlessly adapts using English as the primary language of instruction while incorporating Urdu for concepts that are better expressed in the traditional language. Parents choose the preferred medium; we deliver accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions

What level should my child be at to start?

No prior knowledge is needed. Islamic Studies for beginners starts from the absolute basics the names and attributes of Allah, what it means to be Muslim, and the first pillar of Islam. We build up from there.

Is this course aligned with any specific madhab (school of thought)?

Our general Islamic Studies curriculum covers universally agreed-upon Islamic beliefs and practices. For Fiqh topics where madhabs differ, we present the mainstream Hanafi position (most common for South Asian families) while noting other views where relevant.

Can Islamic Studies be combined with Quran courses?

Yes in fact, combining Islamic Studies with Nazra or Tajweed is ideal. As children learn to read the Quran, Islamic Studies provides the context and meaning behind what they are reading.

Will my child learn about the life of the Prophet ﷺ?

Yes Seerah (the Prophet's biography) is a core part of our Islamic Studies curriculum and one of the most beloved topics for children. We use engaging storytelling appropriate for each age group.

Is this available for non-Urdu speaking families?

Absolutely. Our teacher delivers full Islamic Studies classes in English. Many of our students are from English-speaking backgrounds with limited Urdu.

How is this course structured is there a fixed syllabus?

Yes. We follow a structured annual curriculum covering Aqeedah, Fiqh, Seerah and Akhlaq across four terms, with age-appropriate depth at each level. Parents receive a copy of the curriculum at enrolment.
